Fraud Alert

I thought it important for you to know that in the last week I have seen several pieces with fake marks. Please check the source you are buying from and be sure you are buying from a reputable source that knows the material. Get a receipt that says what the piece is, with details and confirm that there is a return policy longer than a few days. I have seen a counterfeit "The Work of L&JG Stickley" mark on a bookcase and a die stamped mark on a couple of pieces of copper claiming to be Gustav Stickley. When values of objects go up there will always be those who try to get something for nothing. If you would like to discuss this please give me a call. Dave Rudd

Thanks to Anna for sharing this with us. It was purchased in a Syracuse, NY at a show. The dealer happened to be from Syracuse. It looks like who ever "signed" this hasn't a clue what a real Stickley label looks like. This was cut from a copy machine copy and then decoupaged the piece of paper to the underside. I've seen better attempts at fraud. If you have as well please share them with me. Oh, by the way the bench is NOT Stickley.

While doing a show at Bograd's Furniture this past weekend in Riverdale, New Jersey I was offering appraisals of Arts and Crafts items at a cost of $5.00 to benefit The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms. A gentleman came in with this rocker with a fraudulent Roycroft mark. He had purchased it a couple of years ago through eBay from a seller in the Asheville, NC area. I haven't heard of other instances. Please beware. If you have pieces you are unsure of I would be happy to take a look and if they are fake include them on this page to help other collectors.
